Move over IIMs, Mumbai''s S P Jain Institute of Management and Research is better. Or so it seemed at the recently held Tata Business Leadership Awards (TBLA), with a team of four first year students of the Andheri college beating final year management students from some of the best institutes in the country.

Anahita Ichaporia (22), Asif Shamim (25), Ravi Kumar (25) and Nilesh Kumar (27) presented a business model for marketing Tata Tea in the US as a ready-to-drink lifestyle beverage, and were given first position by judges from Harvard Business School, including K G Palepu, senior associate dean, Nitin Nohria, Professor of Business Administration and Das Narayandas, Associate Professor of Business Marketing.
One of the more prestigious awards amongst B-schools, the short-listing process of TBLA is thorough. "Organisers encourage competition within colleges, and 10 teams from S P Jain participated," the students say. "The final round has eight colleges participating." Besides S P Jain, finalists this year included IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C, IIM-L, XLRI, FMS and IIFT.jamal.shaikh@timesgroup.com
